Sam Hopwood (they/them) is a writer, photographer, and artist living in Brooklyn, New York.
Always connected to the art of creating, Sam graduated from pastry school by twenty-two and while living in Austin, launched their own bakery brand, Brunch Knot Bake Shop.
Upon moving to NYC, they worked as a copywriter and food blogger (Pulp & Rind) while honing their self-taught digital photography skills. They soon became a sought after wedding and event photographer and currently spotlight the joyous details and celebratory moments of queer folx, POC folx, and their allies by capturing thriving love stories through Light and Found Photography.
Sam has also completed several feature length screenplays, both a spec script and an original pilot, and is currently working on a book of personal essays depicting their identity journey through the lens of naming.
Deeply aware that in order to help heal a collective we must first heal ourselves, Sam creates and aligns themselves with projects that strive to be transparent about the journey toward self-compassion in all its mess and struggles.
“Vulnerability, presenting it and owning it, comes from leaning into strength. I tap into this strength when I photograph diverse love stories, share my stories online, or write new ones that represent myself and my community.”
Sam lives with their wife, Lauren Guilbeaux, who leads the transformation of corporate culture and HR via Culture Amp, and is a professional public speaker on the topics of culture, diversity & inclusion, performance management, and how her journey as a trans woman shaped her corporate identity.
Sam and Lauren are currently featured in the Showtime Documentary Series Couples Therapy.
